Comment Moderation

Posted in web issues by Paul Butzi on May 22, 2007

After deleting several comments I felt were inappropriate, I’ve (with some reluctance) enabled comment moderation.  Please understand that when you post a comment, it will be held in a queue, and I’ll have to approve it before it appears on the blog.

The vast majority of comments are on topic and present interesting points of view, and I want to encourage folks to continue with such comments, even when (perhaps especially when) they take a point of view contrary to mine (such as this comment by Doug Plummer).

Comments which are off topic, insulting, abusive, or which consist entirely of links to material which falls into that category are not welcome, regardless of whether I happen to agree with them or not.

Does this mean that if the truth is deemed “insulting” it’s the truth that should be suspect and censored rather than the “artist’s” sense of being somehow mIstreated?

No. It means that, regardless of the truth, falsity, or overall merit of what you have to say, if you insist on saying it in an abusive, vulgar, or insulting way, you can’t say it here.

Another reason to moderate is that Akismet occasionally hiccups and lets through some spam comments. They’ll go into your moderation queue now!
